MPs hope for Belarus’ PACE special guest status restoration

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Belarusian MPs hope that Belarus’ special guest status in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will be restored, Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vitaly Busko told media on 27 January, BelTA informs.

“We continue our efforts on the country’s advancement to the PACE. Once we held a special guest status there… We hope to get it back,” the MP said. In his words, not long ago the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe elected its new chairman Pedro Agramunt who touched upon in his speech the issue of returning Belarus its special guest status in the organization. Head of the delegation of the National Assembly of Belarus for contacts with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), member of Belarus’ House of Representatives Nikolai Samoseiko has headed for Strasburg to meet with the new PACE Chairman.

In February the Belarusian delegation will take part in a regular session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Vienna. Inter-parliamentary ties with the post-Soviet countries and far away states such as Vietnam and Ecuador will be further developed.

According to the MP, the efficiency of foreign trips should be improved. “Their number dropped last year to make up 60% to 2014,” he said.
