MP: Positive momentum in Belarus-PACE relations

STRASBOURG, 24 January (BelTA) - Relations between Belarus and PACE have gained a positive momentum, Andrei Naumovich, the chairman of the permanent commission on human rights, national relations and mass media, said when speaking at a meeting of the political affairs committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Naumovich stressed that the Belarusian Parliament is ready to engage in an open dialogue with the European institutions. The MP noted positive momentum in the relations with PACE. Belarusian representatives take part in various activities of the parliamentary assembly. For example, in 2016 they twice came to Strasbourg to discuss the situation in Belarus and twice to attend the PACE conference on electoral issues and media freedom.

Belarus has been developing contacts of with other parliamentary institutions. The recent meeting of the Standing Committee of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Brussels was attended by Valery Voronetsky, the chairman of the permanent commission for international affairs of the House of Representatives. In summer 2017 Minsk will play host to the annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Andrei Naumovich recalled.
