Minsk to host EaP conference on 7 September

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – International experts will gather in Minsk to discuss the future of the Eastern Partnership amid growing regional turbulence, BelTA learned from the event’s organizers.

Diplomats, scholars and analysts will discuss major achievements and failures of the Eastern Partnership over the past eight years and will assess whether it has become a genuine forum for fostering the relations between the EU and its partner countries.

The impact of the region’s changing geopolitics on the Eastern Partnership will be another discussion topic. The participants of the conference will exchange views on whether the tasks and goals of the Eastern Partnership should be reconsidered and will outline the short- and medium term priorities which can become its new drivers. The conference will also discuss Belarus’ peacemaking initiatives and their prospects of being reflected in the activities of the EU’s initiative.

The conference is expected to work out the recommendations for the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels in November.

The conference has been organized by the Minsk Dialogue Initiative and Estonia’s presidency in the EU Council with the support of Belarus Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.
