Minsk hosts meeting of CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives

MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – A session of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives was held at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 17 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

“The participants of the meeting approved the joint plan of action of the CIS Executive Committee, the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives and the Economic Affairs Commission at the CIS Economic Council to implement the instructions made by the CIS Council of Heads of Government (6 November 2020) and the proposals voiced by the heads of delegations during the meeting. In addition, the members of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives reviewed the work in 2020 and discussed the work plan for 2021,” the press service noted.

The council held a total of 13 meetings and considered more than 70 questions regarding the status and prospects for cooperation between CIS states, the outcome of the meetings of the CIS supreme bodies and the status of implementation of the documents adopted by them. The agendas of the meetings were made taking into account the priorities of the CIS development, the concept of Uzbekistan's presidency in the CIS. Due to the difficult epidemiological situation, the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives held meetings via a video link when necessary.

The the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives also considered the proposals for the draft agenda of the next meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, which is due on 2 April 2021 in the Russian Federation, and approved the candidature of Vasily Volkov, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Free Elections Foundation, as head of the CIS observation mission for the early presidential elections and a referendum to choose governance system in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan scheduled for 10 January  2021. The Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the CIS, Ambassador of Tajikistan to Belarus Mahmadsharif Hakdod spoke about the chairmanship and cooperation with the SCO and the CSTO.

The next meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives will be held on 26 January 2021.
