Dmitry Mironchik remarked that on 10 February the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host the next session of the National Commission for UNESCO Affairs led by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei. Plans have been made to discuss the priorities of work of the specialized committees of commissions in 2017 in the context of the celebration of the 500^th anniversary of Belarusian book printing.

Another issue on the agenda will be the preparation and promotion of Belarusian nomination dossiers for the inscription in the UNESCO’s tangible and intangible heritage lists. “This work proceeds in compliance with the plan prepared by the Culture Ministry. But this plan is not a doctrine, and the commission plans to consider new proposals aimed at expanding Belarus’ presence in the UNESCO lists,” the spokesman said.

The UNESCO heritage lists now include the national park Belovezhskaya Pushcha, Mir Castle, the park and palace complex in Nesvizh, the Struve Geodetic Arc, and the unique rite of the Kolyady (Christmas) Tsars. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggests not only adding one more candidate, but also prioritizing the promotion of this very dossier. I will not specify the details, let’s wait for the decision of the commission,” he said.
