MFA hosts roundtable on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, held a roundtable to mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on 30 July, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Observed annually on 30 July, the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons was included in the United Nations list of international days at Belarus’ initiative in 2014, in furtherance of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s 2005 proposal to establish a global partnership to fight trafficking in persons.

The World Day serves as an effective platform for encouraging the international community to regularly address the issue of human trafficking, raise awareness of the situation of trafficking victims and take measures to protect their rights.

The event brought together UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Rasul Baghirov, IOM representative in Belarus Marina Schramm, members of the UN country team, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, and public organizations engaged in combating human trafficking.

In his speech, a representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs outlined the results of the review of the implementation of the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, conducted in November 2025. The plan was adopted in 2010 at Belarus’ initiative.

He also highlighted Belarus’ recent initiatives to combat human trafficking, including the resolution Combating trafficking in human beings for the purpose of forced criminality, which was adopted by consensus by the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in June 2026.
