MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) - Belarus remains committed to working openly and actively for the benefit of children from all countries and region, reads a statement from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Belarus’ programs for children from foreign countries, BelTA has learned.

"At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 4 October, the heads and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of Belarus visited the city of Novopolotsk to see the conditions of stay of children from the regions affected by the armed conflict in Ukraine. The familiarization trip to Vitebsk Oblast was organized in furtherance of the agreements and relevant suggestions from a number of foreign diplomats following a briefing by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Ambrazevich with the participation of public figure and head of the charitable foundation Aleksei Talai at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in late September 2022,” the statement said. “18 diplomats visited accommodation facilities, educational and healthcare institutions in Novopolotsk that are hosting another group of children from the cities of Lisichansk and Severodonetsk. These are 44 children with accompanying adults."

The guests examined the kids’ living quarters and places of study which they attend together with Belarusian peers. The diplomats also visited the early intervention center of the Novopolotsk City Central Hospital where every child could undergo a medical examination and receive high-quality specialized care. Representatives of the diplomatic corps talked to the children in an informal setting, learned about their impressions of their stay in Belarus.

“Foreign diplomats were able to see for themselves the sincerity and exceptionally good intentions of Belarus in its efforts to provide comprehensive humanitarian assistance to children from the affected regions,” the ministry said. “The diplomatic corps was provided with detailed information about the children's stay in Belarus. In particular, each child’s trip to Belarus is possible only given the written consent of their parents or legal guardians and in a company of authorized adults. At the end of the trip, which lasts 21 days, all the children will return home. The current group of children will leave Belarus on 6 October 2023.”

Belarus has once again demonstrated its openness and transparency in the issues of humanitarian assistance to foreign children.

“All those who wanted to see the legality of our country's humanitarian efforts were able to do so during the trip,” the ministry emphasized. “The refusal of diplomats from a number of countries to visit Novopolotsk only confirmed the politically motivated and groundless nature of rumors, speculations and accusations about the forced relocation of children to Belarus, as well as the lack of the slightest desire to understand the situation.”

“We strongly reject all accusations made against Belarus on this matter. We remain committed to working openly and actively for the benefit of children from any countries and regions, as we have always done,” the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
