MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – A parliamentary delegation from Malaysia led by Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malaysia Ronald Kiandee is expected to visit Belarus on 18-22 August, BelTA has learned.
The delegation is set to meet with Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Viktor Guminsky, representatives of the Foreign Ministry and the State Military Industrial Committee.
The guests are expected to visit the Minsk Tractor Wheel Plant, Belaruskali, Gastellovskoye dairy company, Minsk Tractor Works, the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War and the National Library.
In 2013 the trade between Belarus and Malaysia made up $163.6 million, or 72.9% to 2012. Over the period the Belarusian export to Malaysia totaled $60.1 million (50.9% to 2012), imports from Malaysia to Belarus stood at $103.5 million (97.8%). Belarus’ main exports include potash and nitrogen fertilizers (Malaysia is one of the biggest consumers of potassium chloride in Asia), topographic instruments. Belarus imports rubber, lamps and electron tubes, cacao, TV sets, video monitors and TV projectors, radio equipment.
In May 2013 the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Academy of Sciences of Malaysia signed a memorandum of mutual understanding on scientific and technical cooperation. The two states are busy with working on draft agreements on economic, sci-tech and cultural cooperation, on assistance and mutual protection of investments, avoidance of double taxation and prevention of tax dodging with regard to taxes on income and property, cooperation against crime, a memorandum of mutual understanding between the Justice Ministries. The parties also consider cooperation in the education sector.
