Makei welcomes positive trends in foreign economic relations

MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei has pointed to positive trends in foreign economic relations as he spoke at the annual seminar for heads of Belarusian diplomatic missions on 9 July, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei emphasized that economic matters have always been and remain the major criteria for evaluating the work of foreign diplomatic missions. The foreign minister urged the diplomats to tie up loose ends, sharpen their focus on untapped potential, cement positive trends and prevent any setbacks.

Vladimir Makei noted that the training program for diplomats is centered around one of the country’s major economic aspirations – to diversify and boost exports using all possible instruments. The program includes issues that dominate the current agenda of the government. “The meetings that are planned and the people you will meet there will help you develop a better understanding of the processes going on in our country and around us, reasons and trends underpinning the decisions made by the state and the government,” he said.

The annual training program covers a broad range of issues, including economy, trade, finances, high technology, humanitarian cooperation, educational partnerships, tourism and sport. A special focus will be placed on promoting tourism and preparing for the European Games MINSK 2019. The diplomats will meet with senior officials of ministries and representatives of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to discuss ways to promote products of domestic mechanical engineering, oil industry, agricultural industry, timber industry, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, as well as the Great Stone industrial park products.
