Makei: Foreign policy approaches of Belarus and Russia coincide on virtually all issues

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – Foreign policy approaches of Belarus and Russia coincide on virtually all issues, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said during the joint meeting of the board of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia in Minsk on 22 November.

“Foreign policy approaches of Minsk and Moscow are virtually similar on all matters. We always coordinate our steps within the UN and other international organizations,” Vladimir Makei said.

The minister stressed that the year that has passed since the previous meeting was packed with international events. Most of them were ambiguous and alarming. “We are witnessing the shortage of willingness to make compromises today. In such situations no one can feel safe. We live in the interconnected world. New threats and challenges affect all the countries regardless of their size and position,” he noted.

The parties plan to discuss Belarus-Russia cooperation in the UN system and other international organizations. “Let us think together how we can efficiently use the UN potential for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in our countries,” Vladimir Makei said.

The meeting will also highlight the collaboration with the European Union and the Council of Europe, the alignment of integration processes, and also the measures to counter attempts to falsify history and review the outcome of the Second World War.

The parties are expected to sign a resolution of the Board of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia and the plan of ministerial consultations for 2017.
