Lukashenko’s working visit to China over

BEIJING, 16 May (BelTA) – The working visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to China is over. The plane with the Belarusian head of state onboard has left Beijing Capital International Airport, BelTA has learned.

On 13-15 May Alexander Lukashenko took part in the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which events were held in Beijing and its suburbs. Delivering his speech at the Leaders’ Roundtable Summit, the Belarusian president stressed that today the world is experiencing active evolvement and global changes. These changes are associated with continuous challenges and risks. “That is why it is of high importance today to take this historical opportunity to change the model of interstate cooperation. Prosperity can be achieved only through joint peaceful and mutually beneficial development,” the Belarusian president stressed.

The Belarusian head of state also emphasized that the Belt and Road initiative is not just a trading route. It is a channel for promoting ideas and joint development of innovations. In this respect Belarus called upon the states to think over algorithms to unite their scientific potentials.

While in China, Alexander Lukashenko held bilateral meetings with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The parties took stock of the progress made in the implementation of the bilateral agreements and discussed cooperation prospects in different areas. In particular, a need was noted to intensify the work on setting up assembly plants in Pakistan and Turkey. The leaders also considered in detail the security situation in the region, intergovernmental and inter-parliamentary cooperation.

On the sidelines of the summit Alexander Lukashenko held talks with the leaders of the European, Asian, African and Latin American countries. The Belarusian president also met with the authorities of Kenya, Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam.

On 15 May the Belarusian head of state met with CITIC Group Chairman of the Board Chang Zhenming. The talks were attended by representatives of the company’s biggest subdivisions. Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that there are great prospects for the company’s activity in Belarus. After the talks the CITIC Group decided to launch new projects in the country. Investment will go in the agro-industrial, agricultural and petrochemical sectors.

On 16 May the Belarusian President met with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. The two heads of state talked over the Belt and Road forum in Beijing and agreed to develop all-round cooperation within the project.

Special attention was attached to strengthening cooperation in the military and security areas, and also in the construction, investment, financial, agro-industrial and tourist sectors.

The talks resulted in the signing of the intergovernmental agreement on technical and economic assistance to support social housing projects in Belarus. The parties also concluded an intergovernmental agreement on international cargo transportation and cooperation in the implementation of the Silk Road Economic Belt project.
