MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) – Natalya Eismont, Press Secretary of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, has made a comment for the news agency RBC in response to Vladimir Zelensky’s statement that the Belarus president allegedly offered apologies to his Ukrainian counterpart during a phone conversation in the first few days after combat operations commenced, BelTA has learned.

Natalya Eismont said: “First, the conversation between the presidents of Belarus and Ukraine in the first days of the conflict took place exclusively thanks to an emotional response of the Belarusian president’s youngest son Nikolai, who had Zelensky’s personal phone number in his phone. What was the essence of the conversation? Our president primarily said that the conflict had begun in Ukraine’s territory, in Zelensky’s territory and with the passage of time he will be held responsible for people’s deaths more than anyone else. This is why our president called for starting negotiations. And they happened: three rounds of talks in Belarus and then in Istanbul.”

“No apologies were offered by the Belarus president to Zelensky due to one simple reason: we have nothing to apologize for,” the press secretary stated.
