Lukashenko vows tougher demands, fair pay for scientific achievements

Lukashenko vows tougher demands, fair pay for scientific achievements

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – Demands on science will only intensify, while accomplishments will be properly rewarded, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting to discuss the development of the science and the activities of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

“We will strengthen requirements for science and will worthily pay for accomplishments. I want you to understand my approach. It is simple: deliver a product – receive money. If you need an advance payment and deserve our trust, we will provide one, and it will be substantial. There must be guarantees,” the Belarusian leader said. “We need to seriously shake ourselves up, look at what is happening around us, and think whether we want to end up where certain puppeteers of world politics are trying to drag us. Or do we want to pursue a peaceful and dignified life? If so, we must truly work hard!”

The head of state emphasized that without science and innovation it will be impossible to double labor productivity. Therefore, scientists have a special role in these processes.

Summing up, Aleksandr Lukashenko again reminded of the need to hold another congress of scientists next year: “We expect you to be ready to hold the congress of scientists next year. This will not depend only on me: I will adjust. Set the date. But most importantly, before the congress we must address today’s problems and solve the tasks before us. We have outlined them in general terms. Let's get to work!”
