Lukashenko: Values of the 1917 All-Belarusian Congress are still relevant

First Deputy Head of Belarus’ President Administration Maksim RyzhenkovMINSK, 1 December (BelTA) – The first All-Belarusian Congress of 1917 demonstrated the values that are still relevant today, reads a message of greetings from Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to guests and participants of the conference “The 1917 events in the historic destinies of Belarus”, BelTA has learned.

The message of greetings was read out by First Deputy Head of Belarus’ President Administration Maksim Ryzhenkov on 1 December. “The 1917 events spurred the willingness of Belarusians to live in their own home. The idea of Belarus’ self-determination, a grassroots initiative started by the masses, resulted in convening the first All-Belarusian Congress. This people’s assembly demonstrated crucial values that are still relevant for us today: an independent socially oriented state and the fact that only people, their will, collective wisdom, and leaders can be the true source of independence,” the message reads.

First Deputy Head of Belarus’ President Administration Maksim Ryzhenkov“Consulting with those who work hard to create our wealth at the All-Belarusian People’s Congresses, we learn the second lesson of the history of our statehood: the unity of all Belarusians is the only thing that can secure our freedom to choose and preserve the independent way of development,” the president emphasized.

A fundamental idea was voiced at the 1917 All-Belarusian Congress: to establish a university. “Today we understand even better that education and science are the pillars for the independence of our state as its main goal is to lay the spiritual groundwork as well as the material basis for human development,” Alexander Lukashenko noted.

The head of state also wished the participants fruitful discussions, health, creativity, and new achievements for the good of the native country.
