MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – The optimization in the Interior Ministry is necessary. However, there should not be mindless personnel reduction, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during the working meeting with Interior Minister Igor Shunevich, BelTA has learned.

The head of state was briefed on the performance of law enforcement bodies in 2016, the plan of organizational and practical events aimed at raising the efficiency of the Interior Ministry. The optimization of the ministry’s structure was also on the agenda.

“We cannot avoid it. You regularly inform me that the crime rate is declining. This means that we need to prevent mindless personnel reduction and focus on the optimization of agencies,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The President emphasized that the funds saved thanks to this will remain on the accounts of the ministry. “You will be able to increase wages, buy office assets, ammunition and so on. This is how you will act in the future: all the saved funds will remain at your disposal. Besides, this figure will be doubled. For example, if you save Br10 million after the optimization, you will get Br20 million – Br10 million worth of the saved funds and Br10 million worth of additional funds from the budget,” the head of state stressed. “Therefore, you should be interested in this without compromising your service. There should be no mindless personnel reduction. We should take care of good policemen. If they deserve to continue their service and are needed, they should not be fired. Those who do not want or cannot serve well must be relieved of their duties. Therefore, we need rational optimization.”
