Lukashenko urges to advance Belarus-India relations

TASHKENT, 24 June (BelTA) – Belarus-India relations need an additional impetus for development, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting with India Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi in Tashkent on 24 June, BelTA informs.

“Our relations are increasingly vibrant. But in recent years I feel that an additional impetus is needed to develop these ties,” the Belarusian leader said.

Alexander Lukashenko remarked that during the visit of the India President to Minsk the sides agreed to raise the bilateral trade turnover to $1 billion by 2018. Of course, an economic roadmap should be developed to reach this volume, the head of state said.

Lukashenko urges to advance Belarus-India relationsAccording to the President, Belarus and India have a solid legal framework for the enhancement of relations. The sides are also implementing a number of serious bilateral projects, in particular, in the pharmaceutical industry and other fields.

“Our academies of sciences maintain robust cooperation. India and Belarus successfully implement sci-tech projects in the energy sector, space exploration, ‘green industry’, nano- and biotechnology, robotic science, pharmaceutics, nuclear energy,” Alexander Lukashenko remarked. “We have plans to visit the international trade expo in New Delhi in November 2016. Plans have been also made to host the Days of Belarusian Science in India.”

Lukashenko urges to advance Belarus-India relations“In brief, there are good prospects of cooperation, but I think that we cannot stand still. We should make progress. And of course, we believe that you will enhance your presence in Europe. It will benefit great India, and we are ready to promote your interests in Belarus,” the Belarusian leader added.

The Belarusian-Indian trade made up $126.6 million in January-April 2016. Belarus’; trade surplus totaled $23 million.

The export of BelAZ equipment to India has good prospects. In December 2015, an agreement on the purchase of equipment worth $15 million was signed with Triveni Company. Plans have been made to deliver a pilot batch of ten dump trucks with the capacity of 240-360 tonnes to Indian coal companies. A service center for BelAZ dump trucks was built in Nagpur (Maharashtra), it was officially opened in May 2016.

OAO MTZ and Indian companies Sohra Group and Kundan Group signed an agreement on the production of tractors in India in May 2016.

Besides, OAO MAZ and MG Automotives signed an agreement on the opening of a bus assembly plant in India in May 2016. OAO Gomselmash, DVR Infratech, and Tirth Agro are mulling over the possibility to launch the assembly of Belarusian harvesters in India.

Belarus is implementing a number of investment pharmaceutical projects with the participation of Indian companies LOK-BETA Pharmaceuticals, Natco Pharma, and Hetero Drugs, including the manufacture of oncology drugs and veterinary medications.

Belarus-India scientific and technical cooperation is regulated by a corresponding intergovernmental agreement. The academies of sciences also have a cooperation agreement. Nine research projects in bioinformatics and biotechnology, nanotechnology and nanomedicine, photonics, ecology, renewable energy have been approved.

Plans have been made to hold the Days of Belarusian Science as part of the national exposition of Belarus at the India International Trade Fair in New Delhi in November 2016.
