MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed to restore and repair roads after the winter as he heard the government’s 2025 report on 17 February, BelTA has learned.

“We need to think now about how to repair the roads after the winter,” the head of state set the task. “We must restore them, no matter the cost. We must mobilize.”

The president noted that asphalt road surfaces are prone to damage from Belarusian winter weather, so where feasible, bitumen and particularly cement should be utilized. “We need to focus on concreting,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. Especially since the country has already mastered the relevant technologies, has the necessary equipment, and has good examples of roads with such surfaces in operation.

Regarding the work of road services, the president also pointed to the condition of suburban roads. The workers cleared the snow but left it piled up on the shoulders. “I was in the car and saw: they cleared the snow, just shoved it left and right. Then there was a little rain, and you have got a solid ice wall. Then, the rains will come, a thaw, and you will get water sitting on the roads. We will ruin all of them,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Couldn’t they have pushed the snow not onto the shoulder, but over there onto the slope, so that the water would drain all spring when the snow melts? Don’t our road workers know that? Or don’t we have a deputy prime minister in charge of this?”
