MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko supported the initiative for the mutual opening of embassies of Belarus and Ghana as he spoke to the media following talks with President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana in Minsk on 8 June, BelTA has learned.
“The president [of Ghana] raised the issue of opening embassies in both countries during our talks. We support such an initiative, but we would very much like our joint intergovernmental committee [on trade and economic cooperation] to begin its work. And for the embassies to carry out corresponding work in furtherance of that effort,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
As BelTA previously reported, Belarus and Ghana have signed an agreement to establish a joint committee on trade and economic cooperation. The document was signed in the presence of the two countries’ leaders, Aleksandr Lukashenko and John Dramani Mahama, following official talks in Minsk.
The committee will coordinate the parties’ efforts to expand trade ties and economic cooperation. “I suggest convening the first meeting of the committee without delay to put into practice all the agreements reached during your visit. We need to have a concrete action plan for developing trade between our countries,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said during the talks.
