NUR-SULTAN, 29 May (BelTA) – First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev should examine the state of things in the Eurasian Economic Union in the capacity of the Honorary Chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko suggested at the EAEU summit in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, on 29 May, BelTA has learned.
“At the narrow-participation meeting I suggested that Nursultan Nazarbayev revise, among other things, all the things that we have done or not done in our union, starting from the staff composition of our commission up to strategic priorities. He can be of invaluable help here,” the Belarusian president noted.
“Do not think that this is some kind of a gift to the person who stepped down as Kazakhstan president. We can still use his expertise and knowledge for the benefit of our union,” the Belarusian leader is convinced.
Aleksandr Lukashenko deems it necessary to keep expanding the powers of the Eurasian Economic Commission, first of all, in order to prevent new barriers. “I believe that the Honorary Chairman of our union can be of great help to us by playing an important role in this process,” he noted.
The president emphasized that it is not only about the personality of Nursultan Nazarbayev. “He has a great number of smart people, experts behind him. They worked closely with him while he was president and we should keep this team,” the Belarusian head of state noted.
