Lukashenko speaks about world redivision, responds to Zelensky
MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) – It is important to maintain unity at a time when the world is being reshaped, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting with the heads of government delegations taking part in the sessions of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the CIS Heads of Government Council in Minsk on 30 September, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko highlighted the critical importance of preserving and developing economic cooperation, especially given the current conditions. “A redivision of the world is underway; there is a competitive battle, a struggle. We would like to stand our ground in this struggle. And we can only do it together," the Belarusian leader said.
“You are the generals in your countries' economies,” the president said as he addressed the meeting participants. "Meanwhile I am a man who… My colleague Volodya Zelensky, whom I once considered like a son, recently said that Putin and I are 'old men' 'whispering in corners' to the detriment of others. That's total nonsense.”
The day before Vladimir Zelensky commented in a highly rude manner on the recent statements made by Aleksandr Lukashenko regarding the Ukrainian issues following the talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.
At the time the Belarusian president stated that there were good proposals regarding the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict that the current leadership in Kiev should agree to. He also expressed a desire to meet with Zelensky. “I would simply like to talk with him. I have something to tell him," the Belarusian leader remarked as he talked to journalists. “I believe the time has come for us to begin consultations. At the start of the Special Military Operation, I said: we, the leaders of the three Slavic states, need to sit down and reach an agreement. We need to agree on ending this senseless war. We must come to an agreement. If we don't, things will be bad for everyone.”
