Lukashenko sees Mirziyoyev off at airport as visit ends

MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) – The visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus has concluded. Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko personally saw his counterpart off at the airport, BelTA has learned.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Belarus on an official visit on 8 July. The joint program of the heads of state began the same day with a one-on-one meeting. The Belarusian leader invited his counterpart to his residence, where they had conversation in an informal setting.

The official part of the visit, the presidents’ talks with the participation of delegations, took place on 9 July. The presidents agreed on a fundamentally new approach to relations between the two countries. They reaffirmed the goal of reaching $2 billion in trade by 2030, including through strengthening cooperation in mechanical engineering, agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and several other areas.

Aleksandr Lukashenko gave a high assessment of the current level of mutually beneficial Belarus-Uzbekistan cooperation and the atmosphere of friendship and trust. “We just have to fulfill everything we have agreed on. Everything we are capable of in Belarus and can do for Uzbekistan, we will definitely do. I have promised that to Shavkat Miromonovich [Mirziyoyev]. Trust me, we will complete our journey on time. The president of Uzbekistan also said that he would not lag behind. He will also make this journey on time as one should,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

“We will proceed from talks to real deeds. Aleksandr Grigoryevich [Lukashenko] has opened up very serious perspectives for us and given us broad opportunities [for advancing cooperation]. We should use them. It is a historic moment. If we don’t use them today, it will be too late tomorrow. It is mutually beneficial both for Uzbekistan and for Belarus,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed confidence.

Following the talks, a number of documents were signed, the key one being the declaration on establishing relations of strategic partnership between Belarus and Uzbekistan. A roadmap for the development of cooperation between the two countries was also approved for 2026-2030.
