Lukashenko sees good development prospects in Grodno Oblast

Lukashenko sees good development prospects in Grodno Oblast

KORELICHI, 20 September (BelTA) – There are good development prospects in Grodno Oblast. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement while talking to employees of a flax plant in Korelichi, Grodno Oblast on 20 September, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said: “Grodno Oblast was the best one in the Soviet Union. It is as good these days if we talk about all the post-Soviet space.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked he sees good prospects in various directions. For instance, in agriculture Grodno Oblast can collect much more grain. “I’ve told the governor that 1.2 million tonnes of grain is more than last year but Grodno Oblast can do better. It can harvest 1.5-1.7 million tonnes of grain and 300,000 tonnes of corn. Two million tonnes in total.”

Apart from that, Belarus and Grodno Oblast have preserved their multiple-product farming enterprises. Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that, for instance, in Russia there are farming enterprises that grow excellent wheat. There are companies, primarily private ones, that make excellent meat products or rather good apples. “They focus on one type. But if we talk about one enterprise making several types – milk, meat, flax, corn, gardens like [the agricultural enterprise in Grodno Oblast] Progress-Vertelishki. One enterprise makes all those products. The practice no longer exists in Russia, Ukraine, and other countries. Everything has been destroyed. Only Belarusians have saved and kept multiple-product farming enterprises. Virtually all the farming enterprises in Grodno Oblast are like that,” the Belarusian leader said.

Yet Aleksandr Lukashenko believes it is necessary to work harder to achieve better performance figures. “You need the best technologies. Just like the best farmers in Poland, Germany, and France. We’ve travelled all over the world and have learned how to do it. Grodno Oblast knows how to do everything. You just have to improve performance. If you can add 15-20% next year, you will be heroes,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

As an example of good business organization and the creation of a regional system Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned OAO GrodnoOblselkhoztekhnika. During the tour of the flax plant Aleksandr Lukashenko examined the machines and vehicles manufactured and refurbished by the company’s enterprises. “Well done! You’ve created a holding company. Old repair enterprises have been improved. You are working on the agricultural machines I want restored. GrodnoOblselkhoztekhnika is a company that has to help people and farming enterprises. At fair prices. You don’t want to push away your customers,” the head of state noted. “Russia brings engines these days. They’ve imported a lot of vehicles but nobody knows how to work already. They bring Mercedes engines to Belarus for repairs.”

“So you are creating systems. It is a characteristic trait of your governor [Vladimir Kravtsov]. I’ve known him for a long time. A good man. It is always necessary to create systems. And everyone knows how to do it in Grodno Oblast,” the president added.
