Lukashenko recommends Belarus canoe/kayak team for award

MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave an instruction to confer high awards on the Belarusian canoe/kayak team and their coaches for the brilliant performance of the team at the recent ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Szeged (Hungary), BelTA has learned.

The head of state set this task to the Belarus President Administration. He specified that awards should be bestowed upon not only the athletes and head coaches, but also the first coaches of the athletes and other coaches of the national team. He reiterated that nurturing elite athletes is the result of many years of common work.

During the meeting with Vice Premier Vladimir Dvornik and First Vice Premier Aleksandr Turchin on 27 August, the head of state recalled the triumphant performance of the Belarusian canoe/kayak team at the world championships. Team Belarus won 14 medals and topped the overall medal standing together with Germany. “Great job! Well done! I decided to attend their events regularly, because they perform so well, unlike some of our representatives of mass sports,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
