LYASKOVICHI, 15 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko received a beehive with bees as a gift during the Call of Polesie festival in Lyaskovichi on 15 August, BelTA has learned.

The gift was handed over by Sergei Poddubny, the newly named Honorary Poleshuk. He noted that honey symbolizes health and longevity. “Every single drop of our precious product holds a piece of inexhaustible energy, robust health, and longevity. Dear Aleksandr Grigoryevich [Lukashenko], please accept these gifts from the Polesie region on behalf of all Poleshuks, as a token of our deep respect for you and our Homeland,” Poddubny said.

The head of state expressed his gratitude for the gift and, smiling, noted some concerns about keeping it at the Palace of Independence, the traditional home for all official presidential gifts.

“I honestly don’t know what to do with it, how am I supposed to set up this beehive at the Palace of Independence? I think people will be afraid to come visit me. We will think about what to do,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said with a laugh.

The president noted that Polesian honey is special. “I am very familiar with your honey – it’s authentic and organic. It comes not from the cultivated fields we sow (though we have that as well), but from these local meadows and the vast floodplain of the Pripyat. That’s what makes it special, honestly. I appreciate this gift,” the head of state said.
