Lukashenko, Putin discuss economy, situation on Belarus’ borders with NATO

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation in the evening of 23 August. The parties had agreed to get in touch by phone during the CSTO summit that took place in the morning. The presidents wanted to discuss the situation in Afghanistan and to compare notes on topical issues of the bilateral agenda, in particular economy, defense and political issues, BelTA informs.

The two heads of state discussed the Union State programs; the work on them is nearing completion. The decisions on the programs will be made in the near future.

Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin also touched upon the upcoming Belarus-Russia strategic army exercise Zapad 2021 [West 2021].

The presidents discussed in detail the situation on Belarus’ borders with NATO.

They also talked about cooperation in personnel training for the military and special services, as well as interaction in mass media.

Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin also scheduled high-level contacts for the near future.
