MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Equipping the army with new weapons and upgrading the existing ones are one of the priority areas of the development of Belarus’ Armed Forces, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the official meeting held on 22 February to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Belarus, BelTA informs.
Belarus believes that it is necessary to develop high-precision weapons today. And Belarus is working in this area developing its own weapons. The head of state expressed special gratitude to China for the assistance in this field.
The multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) Polonez has become the first model of precision weapons that entered service in the Belarusian army. Its effective range was later extended up to 300km which was confirmed during the tests in October 2017. “The system has surpassed our expectations. Today it is in demand in foreign markets,” the president noted.
For the anti-aircraft defense Belarus has designed a new domestic medium-range surface-to-air missile system that can destroy air targets, including unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles.
In addition,Belarus has devised a line-up of light armored vehicles. The armored vehicle Kaiman is already in production and will soon be supplied to the Belarusian army.
“We have created advanced mobile units in our Armed Forces. In the event of a conflict, they will be deployed within two to three hours,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
The work on modernization and testing of attack and reconnaissance unmanned aircraft systems continues in Belarus. Plans have been made to to procure and supply the armed forces with the satellite stations and mobile telecommunications systems in the next few years.
Teaching soldiers and officers modern methods and means of warfare is also an important part of the training in the armed forces, the head of state stressed.
