Lukashenko hears report from Grodno Oblast governor

MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko received a report from Grodno Oblast Governor Yuri Karayev on 3 August, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian head of state.

One of the central topics was the recovery efforts following the severe weather that hit Grodno on 1 August. The storm damaged not only urban infrastructure but also crops across Grodno Oblast. Aleksandr Lukashenko inquired in detail about the scale of the damage and the measures being taken to address the consequences. The head of state was reported that personnel from the emergencies ministry, forestry departments, and other services have been deployed to the affected areas.

The second major topic of the report was the progress of the harvest in Grodno Oblast, the pace of fieldwork, and the specific conditions in individual districts. The president was particularly interested in the situation in the north of the oblast. It was reported that weather conditions are making certain adjustments to the harvest in the northern districts, requiring a tailored approach to fieldwork.

Overall, 50% of the total area has already been harvested in the oblast, and the first million tonnes of grain is expected to be reached in the coming days.

Another issue discussed was the prospects and trends in regional tourism development. In the first half of the year, Grodno Oblast saw a noticeable increase in tourist traffic, with a significant number of visitors returning to the oblast for a second visit. The discussion also touched on the reconstruction of the town of Mir ahead of the 500th anniversary of Mir Castle, one of the oblast’s main attractions, which will be celebrated next year.

Additionally, the report covered plans to resume operations at Grodno Airport.
