Lukashenko, Gutseriyev discuss second Belarusian potash mine construction, sales prospects

Lukashenko, Gutseriyev discuss second Belarusian potash mine construction, sales prospects

MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has met with the businessman Mikhail Gutseriyev in order to discuss the construction of the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory and prospects of product sales, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “The most important thing I would like to hear from you today is how the construction our main project – an enterprise to mine potash sales, fertilizers – proceeds and what prospects regarding mining and sales of these products you already see.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko continued: “It is very important for us to glue relations of Slavkaliy with Belarusian Potash Company so that you could enter the market in a coordinated fashion. Once we commission the Nezhinsky factory and once we commission at Pripyat (we’ve already opened an enterprise), we will be virtually the world’s top producer of potash fertilizers. In other words, we will be able to dictate sales terms. I would like to get things started in that direction already just like you and I agreed once. I am interested in this project, in how it is being implemented.”

The Nezhinsky mining and processing factory based on the Starobinskoye potash salts deposit will be the second enterprise in Belarus to mine potash salts and make potash fertilizers. It will be able to make up to 2 million tonnes of potassium chloride per annum. The investment project provides for building one mining facility in addition to a processing plant, a gas turbine power plant for proprietary needs, railway infrastructure, automobile roads, housing infrastructure, and other kinds. IOOO Slavkaliy is in charge of implementing the project. The company is part of Mikhail Gutseriyev’s Safmar Group. Construction of the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory began in 2017.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also thanked Mikhail Gutseriyev for charity work in Belarus. “Thanks for the temple. No other Muslim has built an Orthodox Christian temple for people,” the head of state said. He also thanked Mikhail Gutseriyev for support for sports and for the construction of a school.

When asked by reporters, the businessman made a few comments about progress of the charity projects he is implementing in Belarus. Mikhail Gutseriyev is funding the construction of a church in the town of Shershuny, Minsk District. It is not the first religious structure built by the philanthropist. Mikhail Gutseriyev constantly sponsors the construction of temples regardless of which religion they belong to. “People thought up religions, yet there is one god,” the businessman explained. “If a person believes in god, follows all the principles of the religion, then this person strives for better things. This is why I build mosques, churches, synagogues, and have financed a Buddhist temple in Russia’s Buryatia. I am calm about these matters.”

Apart from that, a large school is being built in Minsk thanks to charity aid. According to Mikhail Gutseriyev, over $13 million has already been spent on this project.
