Lukashenko grades work of Belarusian police
MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – The work of Belarusian police is insufficiently effective. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement as he made a number of personnel appointments in the Internal Affairs Ministry system on 28 March, BelTA has learned.
The head of state said: “You know that police is the core of our entire public security system, the fight against crime. If you work effectively, there will be results. But, speaking absolutely sincerely, I cannot grade police performance as high as 9 or 10 or even 8 on a ten-point scale. I found confirmation of it one more time – it concerns the minister and the state secretary – when I was in Mogilev Oblast.”
Alexander Lukashenko explained he had revived the Soviet practice and instructed the internal affairs minister to keep an eye on efforts to restore order in agricultural enterprises primarily with regard to the state of vehicle depots and vehicle maintenance. It had been necessary to take a look at the state of affairs and take measures to get the machines ready before the spring field work. “If the minister had fulfilled my instructions, we would not have seen the mess we saw in one of the vehicle depots on the second day of my trip to Mogilev Oblast. There was not a single agricultural machine in a working order. It was a graveyard,” the president pointed out.
“This is why keep in mind that we need order in everything. Not only in the street, not only in the fight against crime. Assistance should also be provided with keeping an eye on how vehicles, machines, permanent structures, and premises are maintained. We cannot do it without police. Police was everywhere back in the Soviet Union times. Police had a finger in every pie. These days in some places policemen don’t want to get their hands dirty,” the head of state said.
Talking to Sergei Doroshko, who had been appointed chief of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry Academy, Alexander Lukashenko stressed he would have to work hard: “There will be no rest for you. Don’t think you will sit back and do nothing over there. Police work starts with you.”
“Everyone will bear responsibility. Men, we cannot be self-complacent. You can see what is going on around you,” the president said. “We waste crazy amounts of money when we create something yet that something fails to deliver results the way we want it to. Not only the oblast governors and the central government should care for it. We should keep an eye on it, too. We need order not only in the street where people take walks. We need order in the country as a whole. We cannot accomplish it without police. This is why I want you to work hard!”
