LYASKOVICHI, 15 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko demanded strict order in the Pripyat floodplain, calling it highly valuable for both Belarus and Europe, during the Call of Polesie festival in Lyaskovichi on 15 August, BelTA has learned.

The president highlighted the issue of the Pripyat River floodplain being overgrown with wild vegetation. “Nearly 10 kilometers of well-watered lands [are becoming overgrown]. It is unacceptable waste for us when millions of people in the world are starving. I perfectly understand, as a man of the land, that this floodplain is our future. Not only for Belarusians, but perhaps for the whole of Europe. The climate is becoming drier and hotter, yet we have such a treasure,” he emphasized.

As a result, during his working visit to Zhitkovichi District the previous day, Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed to address this issue, carry out the necessary works in the Pripyat floodplain, and develop compact tools for this purpose. This is essential because standard high-horsepower tractors are not suitable for such types of work.

The head of state instructed to allocate budget funds within the Polesie development program for the creation of such equipment.

“The floodplain must be mown. Even if we cannot collect the hay. Otherwise, there will be a ‘jungle’ that even our children will never get into,” the Belarusian leader said.
