LYASKOVICHI, 15 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko called for the development of a field irrigation strategy during his visit to the Call of Polesie festival in the agrotown of Lyaskovichi, Petrikov District, on 15 August, BelTA has learned.

The head of state recalled his recent discussion on mowing grass in river floodplains. This practice will provide extra livestock feed and bring idle lands back into agricultural use. This issue is particularly relevant for Polesie, home to the Pripyat River.

“These are well-watered land reserves for the future. If we properly irrigate the fields here, the crop yield will be outstanding,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.

In this regard, he highlighted field irrigation as a solution. Given Belarus’ abundant water resources, irrigation could address moisture deficits on farmland during dry weather. “We have plenty of rivers, lakes, and marshes, yet we complain about the lack of rain. We should be happy instead and focus on field irrigation,” the president underscored.
