Lukashenko calls for cleanup of Belovezhskaya Pushcha

BREST, 30 July (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko demanded to bring order to Belovezhskaya Pushcha during his working trip to Brest on 30 July, BelTA has learned.

“We need to sort things out in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Not just along the route I flew over, but across the entire forest. There are far too many fallen trees. I am dissatisfied with what is happening in Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Order must be restored. I cannot cut down all the fallen trees there myself, chop them into firewood, and so on,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik noted that scientists advise against clearing out the fallen trees. In response, the head of state outlined the following approach: “We have strictly protected areas where logging, mowing, or mushroom picking are banned. But in the rest of the forest, order must be restored.”
