Lukashenko: Belarus will continue to facilitate prisoner swaps between Russia, Ukraine

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) - Belarus will continue to facilitate prisoner swaps, exchange of bodies between Russia and Ukraine, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with the Central Television show on the NTV channel on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said that Belarus maintains certain contacts with Ukraine. The president explained that the media report about the mediation of the UAE in the exchange of bodies and prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine, but the process itself has been organized with the direct participation of Belarus. "This is all happening on our territory. This is all happening with our direct participation," the head of state said.

He recalled that such exchange took place just recently. "If the Russians want it (Ukrainians do want), we will continue to facilitate this process. Ukraine is ok with working with us and practically on our territory. We will continue to carry out this humanitarian mission, including in terms of children: their children’s ombudsman, your and our ombudsmen together with members of our parliament are involved in this. I support this," the Belarusian leader stressed.

"Therefore, we have normal contacts with them [Ukrainians], we can convey any signal to them. If they have questions, they can ask us and through us they can convey some questions to the Russian Federation, primarily to the military. If there are such questions, we pass them on immediately," Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

According to him, some MPs, diplomats and the military are authorized to make the relevant contacts. "Everything that Ukrainians agree to," the president said.
