MINSK, 7 November (BelTA) – The relations between Belarus and the United States will not change whatever the outcome of the US election is, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media after visiting the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA has learned.

"I do not expect the situation to cange in our relations," the head of state said. "The relations will not change. None of them, neither the current president [Donald Trump] nor the new one (if Joseph Biden is announced winner] knows where Belarus is. Americans, you know, are immersed in their own problems. Their foreign policy is always about aircraft carriers, bombs, missiles. This is what their foreign policy boils down to," the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the world has changed. He discussed this topic with U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo during his visit to Minsk. “I asked him a question: why they started wars on all fronts [including trade disputes between the U.S. and, for example, the EU and China]? Indeed, they are a major power but they cannot win wars on all fronts today."

“Therefore, I do not expect that the situation will change in our relations. You know that in the U.S. the powers of the president are not what they are here, ‘authoritarian and dictator-like'. He may not decide anything there. The Congress can tie him hands down as it did with Trump. He made attempts to do something. The first term is over and he could do anything. That's his main problem," the Belarusian leader summed up.
