Lukashenko: Belarus can repay its debts without refinancing

MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) – Belarus does not need refinancing to pay off its debts. There are enough resources in Belarus’ budget for this, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during an open dialogue with reporters on 29 January, BelTA has learned.

“Refinancing would be desirable. Anyway, we have made provisions in this year’s budget to repay our debts,” Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.

In 2015 Belarus will face some $4 billion in debt payments. “If we do not manage to do refinancing, we will pay this $4 billion. We have money for this in the budget. Thus there is absolutely no need in selling our bonds for a song. We are not in a pre-default state and can pay off our liabilities,” the head of state noted.

“In the history of the sovereign Belarus there has never been a case when we have failed to clear our debts, and there will never be one. We will give the last money we have to repay them,” Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
