Lukashenko appoints Ambassadors to China, Georgia

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko appointed the heads of Belarus’ diplomatic missions in China and Georgia, BelTA has learned.

Kirill Rudy has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the People's Republic of China.

Mikhail Myatlikov has been appointed to the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Georgia.

With regard to China, it is difficult to overestimate that country. This is the future of the entire planet. Once, when I was an MP, I talked about this in Parliament. But they did not listen. The country has been developing rapidly, Alexander Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian President stressed that Belarus and China have established friendly relations of a strategic nature. “Over the years and even decades, we have managed to show China that we are a reliable partner. This is the main thing for them,” he said.

Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei, who was also present at the event, noted that during his recent visit to Latvia an important theme that ran through all discussions was the cooperation opportunities in the context of the Silk Road Economic Belt. “They are willing to work with us. We think this direction is promising and we need to develop it,” he said.

Speaking about Georgia, the head of state noted that this is a traditionally friendly country. “They are our brothers. We lived in one country. We have preserved very good relations. Our visit testifies to this,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

“Georgia pursues the policy which is, let’s say, different from our policy. But it is the right of any country to choose foreign and domestic policies. In this situation, we needed to find common ground. And we did,” Alexander Lukashenko noted.
