Lukashenko announces meeting with Putin, extended foreign trip

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko revealed a planned meeting with President Vladimir Putin of Russia and an extended working trip abroad. Certain issues related to preparations for these visits were discussed during the head of state’s meeting with Belarus’ Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin on 23 June, BelTA has learned.

The meeting focused on the recent visits of the prime minister to Uzbekistan and Russia. “You were on a working trip. How are things developing with our friends there?” Aleksandr Lukashenko asked.

The discussion, in particular, touched upon the talks between the heads of government of Belarus and Russia. “You spoke with [Prime Minister of Russia] Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin. How did that conversation end? This is very relevant ahead of my meeting with the president of Russia, where, as usual, we will discuss issues that have not been resolved at the government level,” the Belarusian leader said.

“Are there such issues or problems in our relations? How will we resolve them?” the president added.

The head of state noted that the 13th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will soon take place in Minsk and Minsk Oblast. “It is a very good platform for discussing not only current but also strategic issues,” the president said.

“Therefore, you will need to deal with this first of all, since I have a long-term foreign trip ahead,” Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed the prime minister. “And in connection with this extended trip, what issues will we need to address as well? Perhaps there are proposals.”
