Lukashenko advises US to free Maduro, strike a deal with Venezuela

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko advises the United States to come to terms with Venezuela and release President Nicolás Maduro. The head of state made this statement in an interview with the RT news channel, BelTA reports.

“What are you going to do with Maduro? If you haven’t completely lost your minds, you need to back down. You don’t need to admit mistakes or anything like that. Just back off and let the man go. Then make a deal with Venezuela. They will come to an agreement with you, because they know what the United States of America is about, just like everyone else [in the Western Hemisphere],” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state noted that there were many problems in Venezuela that caused discontent with the government. Thus, the United States had no trouble invading the country and kidnapping its leader. But Aleksandr Lukashenko believes that Washington could have reached an agreement with Caracas.

“Why am I saying this? Because just the day before, we were discussing this issue with a US delegation, and I told these absolutely pragmatic people: Don’t fight with the Venezuelans. You need to reach an agreement with them,” he emphasized.

Aleksandr Lukashenko went on saying that Venezuelan oil was always designed for American refineries and that it will end up there one way or another anyway. The president believes that the Americans could have made a deal with Maduro on that. However, Washington decided to abduct the president of Venezuela who “couldn’t tolerate the diktat” of the United States.
