According to the President, this is a monitoring meeting. “I would like to make sure that the resolutions of the President are fulfilled correctly. Besides, there are other reasons for addressing this issue at the level of the President,” he said. “The case is that the situation with the irrational use of the premises vacated by Minsk enterprises has caused a massive public outcry recently. These premises are located in the center of the city and can be attractive for investors.”

Alexander Lukashenko stressed that such issues as the alienation of property by organizations are not solved for years. For example, in January 2014 the President gave an instruction regarding the alienation of 18 unused state-owned buildings of the Minsk-based enterprise MPOVT. In accordance with this instruction, an this property should have been sold via an auction within a year.

“The working group comprising the representatives of interested bodies, including the State Control Committee, held four public auctions in 2014-2015 without any tangible progress. None of them was a success because of the absence of participants,” the head of state said.

He remarked that there are new opportunities, and the government has prepared and submitted a corresponding draft resolution to the President.

“The place is attractive. Corresponding departments inform me about various intricacies concerning this issue,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “Taking into account all that, I would like to consider this issue personally and publicly to avoid speculations.”

The head of state asked a number of questions at the meeting regarding the proposals to potential buyers, the compliance of these proposals with the city planning regulations, the protection of the interests of ordinary people in the draft resolution, the terms of the deal and other issues.

“But the main thing is as follows: why the district executive committee, the Minsk City Hall, and the government are reluctant to use these premises for the benefit of the state? Are they unwilling or unable? Or are there any objective reasons? The proposals of potential buyers are the next question,” the President stressed.
