Lidia Yermoshina to stay CEC chairperson

MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – Lidia Yermoshina will stay the Chairperson of the Belarusian Central Election Commission (CEC) after 20 December 2016. She made the statement as she spoke to journalists after the meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 25 November, BelTA informs.

The term of office of the current Central Election Commission will expire on 20 December. Therefore, the President discussed the new convocation of the CEC with the current chairperson of the commission.

“As it turned out, the chairperson of the commission will not be replaced,” Lidia Yermoshina said after the meeting.

The chairperson of the Central Election Commission also said that acting secretary of the CEC, head of the organizing and legal department of the commission Yelena Dmukhailo can become the CEC secretary. “I will nominate her as the candidate for the position of the CEC secretary when the new commission is formed,” the official said.

Head of the National Center of Legislation and Legal Research traditionally serves as the CEC deputy chair. This center is now led by Vadim Ipatov. “He will carry out these duties in the new convocation of the Central Election Commission,” Lidia Yermoshina explained.
