Lavrov: Belarus, Russia confirm commitment to defending common interests on global stage

MOSCOW, 25 November (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia have confirmed their commitment to jointly defending common interests on the international stage, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a joint meeting of the collegiums of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 25 November, BelTA has learned.

“Our commitment to actively providing allied support and jointly defending common interests on the international stage has been reaffirmed both at the level of presidents and, naturally, at the level of our ministries. We noted an unprecedentedly high level of foreign policy coordination and welcomed the successful implementation by both sides of the decisions of the previous collegium meeting, as well as the program of coordinated actions in foreign policy approved by the heads of state,” Sergey Lavrov stated.

As the minister noted, the current program runs from 2024 to 2026, and therefore at the beginning of next year work will begin on drafting the program for the next three-year period.

Sergey Lavrov emphasized that during the collegium meeting the parties agreed to use the full range of humanitarian policy instruments to promote traditional values and preserve historical memory, both in bilateral contacts with third countries and within multilateral structures. “We stressed the importance of intensifying joint efforts to safeguard cultural and civilizational diversity, as well as to counter the politicization of international humanitarian cooperation, with particular attention given to sports,” he said. One of the topics addressed was coordination in developing relations with the countries of the Global South and Global East and their integration associations. Sergey Lavrov noted that this direction was reaffirmed as a priority. The meeting also considered tasks related to further harmonization of approaches to relations with states and international organizations pursuing unfriendly policies toward Russia and Belarus, underscoring the importance of coordinated efforts to counter sanctions, legal, and information aggression. According to him, participants highlighted in their adopted decisions the need to further strengthen cooperation in combating disinformation and manipulation of public opinion.

“Overall, we share the view that further improvement of mechanisms for foreign policy coordination between our diplomatic services in fulfilling the tasks set by the presidents is the key to successfully advancing the interests of Russia and Belarus on the world stage and to strengthening the international authority of the Union State,” the minister stated.

Following the joint meeting of the collegiums, a resolution of the collegiums and a plan of consultations between the Foreign Affairs Ministries of Belarus and Russia for 2026 were signed.
