MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) - The topic of strengthening Belarus' defense capability will be reflected in Belarus’ Social and Economic Development Program for 2026-2030, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi told the media following a meeting with the head of state, BelTA has learned.
The question of whether to include defense capability as a priority in the program sparked vigorous discussions. This provision was included in the revised version of the document.
“The president correctly noted that it is politically incorrect to omit this topic in one of the country's key development documents, given the aggressive policy by our western neighbors. This includes the closure of borders, militarization in general, and the actions by Poland and the Baltic states, the European Union's allocation of enormous resources for armament, and so on. Therefore, in some form, the development of our country's defense capability and the military-industrial complex, along with its prospects, will undoubtedly be outlined in the program as well. This is despite the fact that we have both the Military Doctrine and the National Security Concept,” Dmitry Krutoi said.

BelTA has reported that during the meeting the president stated that the strengthening of the country’s defense capability is a separate issue of national security that has been considered within the framework of other documents. At the same time, Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed the view that there is also a certain logic in including this provision in the five-year program. “If people don't feel military strength behind them, it will be difficult to talk about the economy. Therefore, there is logic given the events unfolding beyond our country's borders,” he said.
