Iran’s first vice president might visit Belarus in 2019

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Iran’s First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri is set to visit Belarus in 2019, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Belarus Mostafa Oweisi told BelTA.

The diplomat noted that the invitation was sent on behalf of the Belarusian premier. At present the Iranian side is mulling over the visit. “I hope that Eshaq Jahangiri will come to Belarus this year,” the diplomat noted.

Speaking about the exchange of visits, he informed that Iran’s industry minister is also set to visit Minsk. His visit will be timed to the 14th session of Belarus-Iran joint commission. The date of the session has yet to be finalized.

The Iranian ambassador, who has been working in Belarus for two years already, welcomed progress in bilateral trade and economic cooperation. He recalled of the task to increase Belarus-Iran trade up to $1 billion. In his view, the two countries are well positioned to achieve this goal. There are also good cooperation prospects in mechanical engineering, oil industry and culture. The diplomat is convinced that the business communities of the two countries should step up efforts to implement joint projects. Generally speaking, the Iranian ambassador believes that the relations between the two countries are constructive and positive.

On 11 February, the Islamic Republic of Iran marks its National Day and the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. The ambassador noted that Iran has a great history and its achievements across various fields are visible in the international arena.
