Initiative for Belarus-Poland mass media cooperation agreement

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian Information Ministry is initiating the development of an agreement on Belarus-Poland cooperation in information sphere, BelTA learned from Belarusian Information Minister Lilia Ananich during her meeting with Polish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Marek Ziolkowski.

The Information Minister said: “It is important for information to promote cooperation, to help us understand each other better and trust each other, to contribute to stronger trade and economic projects and to stronger political cooperation.”

Lilia Ananich underlined the importance of continuing the dialogue in the sphere of information and humanitarian space. The official remarked that the participation of Polish book publishers in the Minsk international book fair in February 2017 met a strong interest. Belarus would like to seriously participate in the Warsaw international book fair in order to present the national book publishing industry taking into account its 500th anniversary. On the whole, Belarusian-Polish contacts in the information sphere should have positive dynamics and should gain at every stage because both Belarus and Poland work to secure confident development.

The key thing is to make sure that creative processes instead of destructive ones are going on in the information sphere, noted Lilia Ananich. In her opinion, the reporters that arrive in Belarus should not try to damage interests of the state but should contribute to stronger ties. New projects and contacts should be sought with that in mind.

The Information Minister also added that there is an entire lineup of TV channels in Belarus that could find their place in information cooperation. Apart from that, Lilia Ananich said it is important to arrange meetings and media tours for reporters in order to allow them to get to know the country and share professional experience.

In turn, the Polish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude for the support provided to Polish participants of the Minsk international book fair where strong interest of the Belarusian public in the Polish exposition was felt. Marek Ziolkowski also expressed readiness to help prepare Belarus’ national stand during book expos in Poland.

Marek Ziolkowski remarked that interest in Belarusian press has increased in Poland recently. Interest in Belarusian media has increased as well. All of that can help make Belarus-Poland relations stronger. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed interest in encouraging positive phenomena and remarked that Poland is ready to hear out Belarusian proposals concerning better representation of Belarusian mass media in Polish information space.
