Industry, agriculture, regional development: Lukashenko hears report from Brest Oblast governor

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko heard a report from Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik on 18 July, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian head of state.

The president was briefed on the social and economic development of the region based on the first-half results. All sectors of the regional economy are currently showing growth compared to last year. This is reflected in the gross regional product, which grew by over 3% over the six months.

The central topic of the report was the progress of the harvest campaign in the oblast, as well as the overall situation in agriculture. Aleksandr Lukashenko took a detailed interest in the current performance of Brest’s farmers and the harvest outlook. The president was informed that the oblast has completed the harvest of winter barley and has begun harvesting winter rapeseed. Overall, Brest Oblast’s farmers are tasked with reaching 2.3 million tonnes of grain and legume crops by the end of the season.

A separate issue was the servicing and creation of necessary conditions for the repair of agricultural machinery. According to the Brest Oblast governor, over the next year and a half, the region plans to bring all agricultural service facilities up to standard.

In addition, the president was briefed on the production of a domestically manufactured baler. The final prototype, produced at the Bobruiskagromash plant, will be ready in the coming days, and it is expected to be demonstrated to the president by the end of the month.

Another topic of the report was the situation in industry, where growth reached 5.5% compared to last year. This result was achieved not only by the oblast’s leading enterprises but also by private companies.
