India eager to cooperate with Belarus in traditional medicine

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) - India is interested in developing cooperation with Belarus in traditional medicine, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Ashok Kumar said during the Belarusian-Indian pharmaceutical business forum in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

India is particularly looking to cooperate in the area of its traditional medicine known as AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy). “The Indian side has already submitted a memorandum of understanding on this matter to the Belarusian government for consideration. The embassy has also opened an AYUSH information center at its office to promote these health systems and raise awareness about them,” Ambassador Ashok Kumar emphasized.

The ambassador hopes that the forum would foster productive discussions, paving the way for new business partnerships and joint R&D in pharmaceuticals and medicine. “Meetings between buyers and sellers of pharmaceutical products will contribute to closer cooperation and the expansion of business ties,” he noted.

According to the ambassador, Belarus’ pharmaceutical market is highly competitive and segmented. “There is no dominant player, although both state-owned and private groups, such as Lekpharm and Belpharmprom Holding Company are among the largest. Major new projects are being implemented in free economic zones and industrial parks, for example, FEZ Minsk, Grodnoinvest FEZ, and the Great Stone Industrial Park, including a syringe manufacturing plant, a radiation sterilization center, and a new pharmaceutical factory aimed at reducing import dependence and boosting high-tech production,” he said.
