IMF mission to visit Belarus soon

MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) – An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission will visit Belarus in the near future, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus Taras Nadolny told media on 13 September, BelTA has learned.

“In the near future we expect Peter Dohlman (head of the IMF mission – BelTA’s note) in Minsk,” said Taras Nadolny. He did not specify the data of the visit.

Speaking about the progress made in the talks with the IMF, Taras Nadolny noted that Peter Dohlman would himself share the results Belarus reached in cooperation with the IMF. “In general, we maintain a good level of communication with the fund,” he said.

The International Monetary Fund is an international organization headquartered in Washington, DC. It was founded on 27 December 1945. Belarus has been an IMF member since 1992. IMF’s activities in Belarus are aimed at working together with the government and the National Bank in preparing economic policy documents with a focus on taxation, budgeting, monetary management, exchange rate, and trade policy in order to achieve considerable economic growth, low inflation and a stable balance of payments. As was earlier reported, Minsk is discussing the possibility to borrow a new $3 billion loan from the IMF at 2.28% per annum for a period of ten years.
