MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) — Belarus is an example of how a country can effectively cooperate with the IAEA, discussing various matters openly, Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said at a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 1 October, BelTA has learned.
The IAEA head recalled his first visit to Minsk 12 years ago, when a nuclear power plant was yet to be built in Ostrovets. "It is a great pleasure to see two units of the NPP in operation," he said.
Rafael Grossi noted that at first the BelNPP construction project faced a number of issues. "In this case Belarus is an example of how a country can work with the agency, how closely it can cooperate with experts and missions of our organization and show, in particular, its openness in this matter," he stated.
