Gomel Oblast children hospital to get state-of-the-art equipment

GOMEL, 17 June (BelTA) – The construction of a new regional hospital for children in Gomel Oblast should be finished within two years. The hospital should be fitted with the latest equipment. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko gave the relevant instructions as he visited the hospital’s reconstruction site in Gomel on 17 June, BelTA has learned.

“We have agreed that it will be a state-of-the-art hospital. We have to take good care of kids and the equipment must be top notch,” stressed the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko also gave instructions concerning sources of funding. He remarked that the central state budget, the oblast budget, the city budget as well as businessmen and philanthropists should contribute to it. “I am ready to give away my own salary. It is necessary to collect little by little in order to make a project of national importance. Hoping for the central state budget alone is not a good idea,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik suggested that the central state budget and the oblast budget could allocate about Br750 billion using the 50/50 ratio. The head of state approved of the idea and promised he would do everything necessary to get the project implemented as soon as possible.

At present Gomel Oblast is the country’s only region without a multipurpose regional hospital that offers specialized medical care to children. The existing hospital does not meet modern requirements and norms already.

In 2016 the facility will be designed and built at the expense of the money earned during the nationwide subbotnik (a voluntary labor day) to the tune of Br64 billion.
