Full removal of U.S. sanctions could enable faster development of cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky met with U.S. Charge d’affaires in Belarus Robert Riley on 3 November, the press service of the Belarusian Economy Ministry told BelTA.

The meeting was focused on discussing the potential for advancing trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Belarus and the USA as well as interaction in humanitarian affairs and prospects of cooperation with regions of the USA. Congratulating the American diplomat on his appointment, Vladimir Zinovsky underlined the importance of holding regular meetings with representatives of the diplomatic corps for the sake of discussing all the topical matters in bilateral cooperation with foreign partners.

The sides discussed Belarus’ capability to serve as an effective investment platform in view of the latest Doing Business report released by the World Bank and Belarus’ rising position in the Doing Business ranking.

Among other things the discussion touched upon the USA government’s decision to prolong the suspension of sanctions against a number of Belarusian companies. “We are convinced that the full removal of existing U.S. sanctions could contribute to faster development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation,” the Belarusian Economy Minister was quoted as saying.

“Cooperation between our countries has already been going for some time, this is why our job is to maintain it and multiply the accomplishments. We have to build on the achievements and continue the regular dialogue for the sake of improving its quality and effectiveness,” summed up the Belarusian Economy Minister.
